On the last day of the Punk Rock Bowling and Music Festival, Monday, May 26th, the temperature in Las Vegas hit 104 degrees. Although it was the hottest day of the weekend, all the bands still provided exciting performances for yet another sold-out crowd. Rats in the Wall, Clepto, Bad Cop/Bad Cop, Cerebral Ballzy, Good Riddance, OFF!, Leftover Crack, Against Me! and NOFX guaranteed fans a positive end to the weekend.

The Punk Rock Bowling festival performances kicked off Saturday, May 24th and featured a lineup of mostly veteran bands formed in the 70s (Cock Sparrer, Peter and the Test Tube Babies, Angelic Upstarts) 80s (Anti-Nowhere League), 90s (The Slackers, The Generators) and early 00s (Devil’s Brigade). Blackmarket Syndicate and The Gashers, formed in 2007 and 2011 respectively, were two of the younger bands on the bill and opened up the show.

Music festivals are one of the best parts of summer and last weekend, August 24th and 25th, we got to photograph our last one of the season at Barry Commodore Park in Brooklyn. The Afro Punk Festival has grown considerably since it began in 2005 and this year’s event featured tons of great performances, as well as DJs, an art wall, yoga, rock climbing, a custom motorcycle show, BMX, a thrift market, and over thirty of New York City’s best food trucks.

The music style varied throughout the weekend and there was definitely something for everyone. However, the common thread running through all the performances can best be described by this line from the Afro Punk website: ”open-minded, non-conforming, and unconventional”.

Saturday, August 24th, we photographed Saul Williams, Cx Kidtronik, The Heavy, Theophilus London, Wicked Wisdom, Jean Grae, Rebelmatic, Small Axe, and The Skins.
